Brighton & Hove CLT

Governance and people

BHCLT is a grassroots movement enabling, and campaigning for, community-led development in Brighton and Hove, led by their large and diverse membership of local people and accountable to them and the wider community.

The idea of growing a Community Land Trust that could act on behalf of the city was born in 2014. BHCLT's foundations were shaped through a series of workshops with community groups actively involved in land and housing issues. They became a Community Benefit Society in 2017. As a relatively new organisation, they are proud to draw from a strong history of activism around community-led housing in the city, from self-build groups to housing co-operatives. They are also part of a network of Community Land Trusts across the country, enabling them to draw from and contribute to the national experience and expertise growing around community-led housing.
