Chase Community Solar - NOW FULLY SUBSCRIBED

Social performance

Please note that this information is no longer updated and is for reference purposes only.

The Chase Community Solar project is an opportunity for people in Cannock Chase and further afield to help finance the installation of solar PV panels on council homes to directly benefit those tenants.

Community Benefit Societies

A community benefit society operates under the rule of one member, one vote no matter how many shares are owned. Profits are shared by the members, with any surplus going to the local community, so when the society does well, the members and the community do too.

Key Social Performance Indicators (KSPIs)

KSPIs are a measure of how the business is performing on delivering its main social or environmental purpose. Read more

In the case of Chase Community Solar the positive effects will be scaled dependent on the total number of installations and therefore the total raise in this share offer.

KSPI 1 - Carbon dioxide saved

It is estimated that if 150 installations of 3kW are carried out, this will displace the equivalent of 176 tonnes of CO2 every year. If 300 installations are carried out (70% at 3kW, 30% at 2.5kW), this will displace 335 tonnes of CO2 every year.

KSPI 2 - Community Fund

CCS will create a community fund from part of the surplus from the generated energy. The level of this will depend on the scale of installation achieved. Indications suggest that if the minimum target of 150 roofs is achieved, the community fund will be minimal (and could be zero), but if 300 roofs are achieved, the community fund will be in the region of £4,000 per year, rising with inflation through the life of the project. It would be at the discretion of the board and members of the Society to decide how this was to be disbursed.
