Electric Blue

Social performance

Electric Blue has identified six key indicators that will effectively measure the progress and social impact from its activities in Cambridge. These will be reported annually to investors in the bond offer.

Key Social Performance Indicators (KSPIs)

KSPIs are a measure of how the business is performing on delivering its main social or environmental purpose. Read more

KSPI 1 - Cambridge Charger Network

The number of chargers installed and operational with a forecast on future installations.

KSPI 2 - Renewable Energy Supplied

All of Electric Blue's chargers are powered by suppliers committed to provide 100% renewable energy (and always will be).  The company will report on the total energy supplied each year.

KSPI 3 - Electric Taxis

Electric Blue will record the number of e-Taxis (including private hire) licensed in Cambridge.  Whilst this may not all be directly attributable to its programmes, the company believes it to be a key metric of success. This information will be gathered from the licensing department at the council.

KSPI 4 - Electric Miles

It is estimated that each charger can provide 500,000 zero-emission miles per year. This is calculated as a function of the energy supplied and an average energy per mile consumed, from analysis of previous taxi demonstration projects, and work with Emission Analytics.

KSPI 5 - Reduction of Greenhouse Gas emissions

Based on analysis of taxis with Emissions Analytics, Electric Blue estimates that each charger could deliver a reduction in CO2 emissions of 106 tonnes per annum, equivalent to planting 636 new trees in Cambridge (according to Trees For Life).

When fossil fuels (petrol and diesel) are burned, carbon that has been locked away for millions of years is released into the air, causing the Earth’s temperature to rise. Trees are a vital element of balancing the planet’s CO2 and oxygen levels, by storing carbon and releasing oxygen. With one large tree supplying a day’s worth of oxygen for four people, planting trees is an effective way to offset the carbon emissions which are a major contributor to climate change.

According to Trees for Life, six trees would need to be planted for the removal of one tonne of carbon. With this in mind, Electric Blue will relate the carbon emissions avoided by the charger project, to the number of new trees which would need to be planted for the same effect. The projection for five years is a reduction of 4,721 tonnes of carbon. This equates to 28,326 trees. At 60 trees per acre, that is equivalent to 472 acres or 281 Cambridge United FC football pitches.

KSPI 6 - Improvement in air quality

“estimated annual 40,000 deaths in the UK that are attributable to exposure to outdoor air pollution, which plays a role in many of the major health challenges of our day”. Royal College of Physicians

Analysis from taxis with Emissions Analytics has allowed Electric Blue to estimate that each charger could deliver a reduction in Nitrous Oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) reported as CO2e (equivalent CO2 emissions) of 0.3 tonnes per annum. According to The Royal College of Physicians, a reduction in NOx and particulate matter will help reduce the “estimated annual 40,000 deaths in the UK that are attributable to exposure to outdoor air pollution, which plays a role in many of the major health challenges of our day”.
