Energise Africa

Who benefits

Energise Africa allows people to rid themselves of kerosene and provides them with a more reliable, cleaner, more sustainable energy source. There are currently 600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa who do not have access to the grid and rely on kerosene for lighting.

Energise Africa is a joint initiative brought to you by two of Europe's leading social investment platforms - Ethex and Lendahand. Energise Africa is an initiative providing working capitial to businesses that sell solar home systems in Sub-Saharan Africa. The aim is to provide 111,000 families with access to electricity in order to increase their chances of achieving economic prosperity and improve their quality of life.

Households and businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa

Energise Africa aims to benefit 111,000 families across Sub-Saharan Africa by enabling people to invest in pioneering businesses that install life-changing solar systems in homes - bringing clean energy and economic opportunities to families. Energise Africa provides solar businesses with the working capital to purchase solar home systems and then proceed to sell these to African families with a financing plan. The families make monthly payments whilst the solar companies maintain the system. After 12 - 24 months the family usually own the system outright.Your investment helps to make the whole process affordable for those who would not otherwise be able to afford the up-front cost on their own.

Solar power has improved the quality of life of households. Families are feeling safer in their homes due to longer hours of light and additional security lights. People's health is improving as the damaging fumes from burning kerosene are removed. Children are studying longer as the extended hours of light means they can continue reading later.

Businesses also benefit by being able to extend their opening hours as they can guarantee light for longer or offer new products; new businesses can be established such as hair salons and famers can increase yields through better irregation.
