BEC's Lawrence Weston solar farm has now been constructed and is generating electricity and income for the co-op.

Update: 01/06/2016

Electricity generation from the Puriton solar farm continues to be above expectations, and investment in the bond also remains high.

BEC has extended the investment deadline to 30 June in order to hit the full target amount.

For those who invest in the bond by 6 June, interest will begin to accrue on 7 June.

Update: 29/04/2016

BEC has extended the bond offer to 6 June to enable more people to invest.

Interest in the bond is high following BEC’s recent announcement that it has now raised £9m of the £10.5m required to fund its complete portfolio of solar projects.

For those who invest in the bond by 3 May, interest will begin to accrue on 4 May.

Update: 29/03/2016

BEC is extending the window of opportunity to invest in their two-year bond offer after significant success. Combined, both bonds have raised over £1m and with significant local and national media coverage expected over the coming weeks, the appetite of people who wish to participate in community-owned solar energy is set to increase further still. Clean energy generation levels are above expectations for the operational site, which is also great news for investors. The offer has extended till the 3rd of May 2016.

Update: 24/02/2016

In December 2015 Bristol Energy Cooperative (BEC) launched a 3-year bond offer to help fund the acquisition of the Puriton solar farm, and this raised over £600,000.

The intention had been for the Puriton solar farm project to be refinanced after three years, once it had demonstrated its reliability in operation and yielded consistent revenues. In preparation for this, BEC had discussed a potential refinancing option with a supportive banking partner, who had expressed a strong interest in providing this to the project after 3 years.

Since then, the bank has confirmed its interest in refinancing the project after 2 years. At the same time, there had been feedback from potential investors in the 3-year bond that a 2-year bond would be more attractive.

BEC has therefore taken advantage of the bank being able to offer earlier finance, by closing the 3-year bond to new investment, and opening a 2 year bond in its place. This took place on 24 February 2016, and the new bond offer is for £2 million.

Update: 27/01/2016
