Nottinghamshire Community Energy

Who benefits

Nottinghamshire Community Energy's purpose is to develop renewable energy projects with a focus on reducing impacts from climate change and increasing local community benefits and wildlife conservation.

Renewable energy generation

The projected annual output in the first year is 4,725MWh, enough to meet the equivalent annual electricity demand for around 1,150 homes.

The project generates clean electricity which helps to avoid more carbon intensive fossil fuels. It also forms part of the developing community energy sector in the UK.

The Community

The provision of significant local community benefits is central to NCE’s vision. NCE will recycle 100% of surplus profits into local communities in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire through a Community Fund.

The Fund will derive its income from the surpluses generated as indicated on the financial performance page and will aim for the Langar Lane Solar Farm to provide £25k per annum during the first 5 years. This amount will increase towards the later stages of the project and over 25 years could result in £1.8 million being available for distribution to local communities via the community fund.

Acceptance of this amount will be subject to a members’ vote at NCE’s AGM. The monies will then be donated to the community fund and will be allocated to projects brought forward by communities across Nottinghamshire.

Criteria for eligible projects supported through the community fund are likely to include wildlife conservation, climate change mitigation, carbon reduction (including local food, transport, waste projects etc) and reduction of fuel poverty.

The Society's members

The Society aims to attract investment from both the Nottinghamshire area and from further afield. Investors will become members of the society and so will be able to actively participate in contributing to the development of a major community energy project.

Members will receive an annual return and will have a say in how the company is managed, how much money is contributed to the local community fund and can stand for election as directors.
