Social performance

Future Wolverton is setting about transforming a Grade 2 listed derelict building into centre for community and education. The resulting community business will be run for the local community, by the local community.

KSPI 1 - Renovation and preservation of the Old School

This share offer helps to secure the future of the Old School building - which as fallen into disrepair -restoring it to its former glory while also rejuvenating the local area of Old Wolverton. The project will also preserve the heritage of the area, telling the story of Wolverton’s agricultural past, and preserving an important listed building for the whole community to enjoy.

The maximum target also allows for environmental and energy efficiency features.

Impact:

  • The Old School stays in community ownership and educational use
  • Preserving local heritage

Users of the community space and guest house will be asked to complete a satisfaction survey, and collated hiring records will provided data on overall usage of space.

KSPI 2 - Community involvement

With this share offer Future Wolverton aims to turn the Old School bulding into a focus of an area of Milton Keynes that has seen extensive housing development, and beginning to create a cohesive community. The Old School will also provide accommodation for some of the many people who work in Milton Keynes during the week but return home at weekends.

Means of measuring the community involvement include gathering data on the proportion of hirers that are part of the local community, an annual local community survey, a voting system where uses of the space can indicate how much they feel involved with the community, a comments box, and AGM feedback.

KSPI 3 - Educational benefits

Run by young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities, Future Wolverton envision the development of the Old School will allow the students of Slade Row school to develop work related and independent living skills, thus broadening the opportunities available to them once they leave school.

Impact:

  • Students from Slated Row equipped with skills to live independently
  • Young disabled people gaining employment experience
  • Change perceptions of disabled people
  • Integration into the local community

The bulk of measures relating to the progress of students benefiting from use of the OSH will be collected by Slated Row School. The requirement to collect and report on these impact measures will form part of the agreement between Future Wolverton and Slated Row School.
