We look forward to welcoming the Ashden Award-winning community benefit society, Energise Barnsley, back to the Ethex platform with a new bond offer launch in the coming weeks. 

Energise Barnsley is the UK's largest local authority and community energy rooftop solar and battery storage project, successfully addressing climate change and fuel poverty while generating funding to build a stronger and more resilient community in Barnsley. 
 
Their new bond offer will help fund Energise Barnsley’s 1,000 Homes project, which plans to install solar panels on 1,000 council-owned homes in the area, where almost 10% of residents live in fuel poverty. 
 
The solar installations will lead to lower energy bills for residents, and all surplus profits from energy generation will be reinvested in the community through the Community Solar Fund. The solar energy produced will reduce carbon emissions by 800 tonnes annually, contributing to Barnsley's goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2040. 
 
The Energise Barnsley partnership won the People’s Energy Award in 2024 at the prestigious Ashden Awards. The judges recognised the power of this partnership, highlighting how it leverages the strengths of communities, councils, housing associations, and other crucial stakeholders.
