Your money will…

  • Take positive climate action by funding the construction of the 2,057 kW Fairy Hill Solar Array (generating enough clean energy for around 800 homes).

  • Accelerate BWCE’s pipeline of local climate action through new projects addressing carbon reduction, energy resilience and fuel poverty.

  • Scale community-owned renewables to create local clean power that benefits people and the environment.

  • Target a tax-free return. Investments target a return of 5.5% and are eligible to be held within an IFISA*

The bigger picture

BWCE is helping deliver a just and locally led energy transition by cutting carbon, reducing household energy bills and strengthening community resilience. As one of the UK’s most established community energy groups, they develop, own and operate renewable energy projects for the benefit of local people rather than large corporates. Since 2010 they have:

  • Installed 37 rooftop solar systems on schools and community buildings, 5 ground-mounted solar sites, and 1 hydro scheme.
  • Raised £15m through community shares and bonds and £10m through commercial loans.
  • Taken a leading role in research pilots on local energy markets and demand shifting and launched a community-led home retrofit/energy advice service.
  • Set out a 2030 business plan to quadruple capacity, targeting 50 MW of new renewables (with over 70 MW currently in development).

  • Rated as one of the largest and most successful community energy organisations in the UK, with nearly 1,000 members, they have big ambitions to do much more, and this bond offer will finance the development of the new solar installation at Fairy Hill in Compton Dando, Bath & North East Somerset.

    * IFISA eligibility depends on investors' individual tax status and current legislation.

What your money will do

Your investment in the Bath and West Community Energy bond offer will:

    • Fund a 2,057 kW ground-mounted solar farm that will generate enough clean electricity to power ~800 homes and reduce carbon emissions for years to come.
    • Unlock further community benefit through the independently managed BWCE Fund, supporting local community initiatives, cutting carbon and mitigating fuel poverty.
    • Pioneer a new local energy supply model that enables households to consume locally generated power at a lower cost and keeps value circulating in the local economy.
    • Make a clear statement in support of positive climate action.
