The bigger picture

Charge My Street are tackling the problem of lack of electric vehicle (EV) charging points in residential areas, helping more people to choose EVs, creating a positive effect on society and the planet. Here’s how :

  • Providing a solution to the problem of lack of EV charging facilities, especially for homes with no driveways, encouraging more people to choose electric transport.
  • Supporting the transition to a zero-carbon transport system - a vital step towards cutting the UK’s carbon emissions.
  • Creating a community-owned network of chargepoints around the UK, that provide renewable electricity, taking the ownership from fossil fuel corporations.
  • Helping improve the public’s health by cutting harmful vehicle emissions that contribute to air pollution.

Where your money goes

  • It will allow Charge My Street to install and run 20 more community-owned on-street chargepoints on top of their 12 existing ones.
  • It will enable people to invest towards the installation of a community chargepoint in their neighbourhood, helping more people choose electric vehicles.
  • It will help to match-fund grant funding obtained by local authorities for EV chargepoints as part of the on-street charging programme.
  • It will help Charge My Street provide community-owned solutions to the barriers people face to owning an electric vehicle in a residential area.

Charge my Street is a community benefit society that installs and operates community chargepoints. and has already successfully demonstrated that community investment can provide chargepoints and stimulate demand for EVs in areas without off-street parking.

Paul Fisher

Director

Paul has over 20 years of experience in Senior Project Management and Controls roles in the Defence industry in the North West of England. He has always been interested in green technology and particularly electric cars.

Nicola Mortimer

Director

Nicola is a consultant who has worked extensively across the renewable energy sector. Her experience covers wind energy, particularly around mapping and identifying sites then supporting the design of technical solutions. In her other role as part of Milliamp at White Cross, she has managed Innovate UK projects which have successfully looked at battery storage and EV chargepoints.

Will Maden

Will has over 15 years’ experience operating as a consultant specialising in logistics & transport. He is currently Director of Analytics for Miralis Data, a specialist algorithm and machine learning data agency. Will developed the first commercial algorithms in the UK to schedule and route electric commercial vehicles.

Alex Hulley

Director

Alex is a committed EV enthusiast with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Nissan Leaf! He is interested in the development of the EV sector and formerly worked as a project manager for EDF. He is based in Morecambe and now works for an energy consultancy at Lancaster University.

Angela Wakefield

Director

Angela has been helping to find potential sites for the installation of community charge points in her home town of Keswick. She works full time for the Environment Agency as a Senior Advisor and is passionate about how we best achieve a sustainable future for all.

Daniel Heery

Director

Daniel has 20 years’ experience of funding and delivering projects focused on communities. He set up the award winning Cybermoor social enterprise in Cumbria and has worked on community owned infrastructure projects. His experience of trying to get a charging point installed on his street in Lancaster gave him the idea to use community shares to bring local people together for a co-operative solution.

Interest accrual and payment

Charge My Street aims to be able to pay share interest of 2% after three years and, if use of the charge points increases over time, 5% after five years.

Getting your money out

Charge My Street is offering community shares which are "withdrawable" shares. These cannot be bought or sold on any market place and are not transferable. Although shares in Charge My Street are withdrawable from Year 3 onwards, this is at the discretion of the directors, and you may not be able to withdraw the full amount you purchased if Charge My Street does not have sufficient funds available at the time you want to withdraw.
