Chief Executive Officer - Director
Catriona became a full-time employee in September 2024. Catriona has 20
years of experience of leading and managing in senior roles within the NHS,
being nominated for 'Innovation in Service Delivery' award two years in a row.
Holding an MSc in Leadership and Service Development, she brings strong
management skills to her role. Catriona has a passion for the environment and
was a co-founder, Secretary and Trustee of Petersfield Climate Action Network
prior to founding Energise South Downs. Catriona is committed to developing
local renewable energy projects that benefit the community. A Petersfield
resident for 18 years, she enjoys connecting with the community and running in
the South Downs National Park.
Director, focus on finance and risk
Graham is a chartered actuary and is a partner at a professional services firm.
His experience includes advising large UK pension schemes on how climate
risk could affect them, and what actions they could take to mitigate these
risks. Graham's expertise includes financial modelling. He helps Energise South
Downs to analyse the costs and revenues for potential new energy projects.
Graham is excited by the potential for Energise South Downs to develop
substantial community-owned renewable energy resources in Hampshire and
also by the opportunity to use surplus profits to support the local communities
in which we operate. Graham enjoys cycling through the Hampshire
countryside and in the evenings you may spot him playing keyboard with his
band.
Director, focus on finance
Peter is a qualified accountant with experience in private practice, industry,
and the public sector. He has held senior roles, including Finance Director for
DH L's international shipping agency and Deputy Finance Director at DEFRA.
His expertise spans finance, planning, and environmental project approvals.
Recently retired, Peter has moved to Petersfield, where he looks forward to
contributing to Energise South Downs. Passionate about the environment
and sustainability, he is eager to leverage his extensive experience to
support the organisation's goals.
Chair of Board of Directors, focus on legal and governance
Andy Figgins is a seasoned energy projects lawyer with over 25 years
of experience in project agreements, financing and operations in the oil and gas
sector. While his career has taken him to Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Egypt,
Oman and other developing countries, there are many transferable aspects
that can help UK community energy. Seeking redemption for a fossil fuel
career, Andy is now supporting ESD as a director focussing on the legal aspects
such as governance, agreements and regulatory framework.
Director, focus on communications
Pippa is the Membership Development Manager for the UK Environmental
Law Association. Having worked both as an Environmental Solicitor, PR
Consultant, Marketing Manager and Fundraising Coordinator, she has a
range of experience and a passion for the environment.
Director, focus on business development
Matt is an accomplished energy professional with a diverse background as a
geoscientist, project manager, and business developer. His experience working
with multiple project operators across the energy sector has equipped him
with a comprehensive understanding of the key elements that drive successful
projects. In recent years, Matt has specialized in Carbon Capture and Storage
(CCS), focusing on delivering solutions for hard-to-abate industrial facilities
across Europe. His expertise in portfolio prioritisation, project development,
and partnership management positions him to help advance ESD's mission.
Passionate about creating impactful, community-led and owned projects, Matt
is dedicated to helping ESD drive decarbonization efforts that deliver tangible
benefits to local communities.
Director, focus on projects
Rosie is an accomplished energy professional with 20 years of experience in
government, private industry and global organisations. Her expertise spans
policy development, feasibility studies, Environmental Impact Assessment,
stakeholder engagement, project management, emergency and crisis
management and consenting for nationally significant offshore wind
infrastructure projects. Rosie holds a First-class BSc degree in Marine
Geography from Cardiff University. Rosie is thrilled to join the ESD board to
support community energy projects that benefit local areas. Rosie is married
with two children and lives in Upham. In her spare time, Rosie enjoys running
or cycling in the South Downs.
Director, focus on technical
Martin, a veteran of the renewable energy industry, has been involved in the
sector since 1980. A former KPMG partner focused on telecommunications
and satellite industries, he later returned to university for an MSc on
decarbonising the UK energy sector. Over the last 12 years, he has worked
on small and medium-sized renewable energy projects. Martin works closely
with JPH Renewables after they bought Basingstoke Energy Services in
2024. Martin highlights a conflict of interest. As a non-executive director at
ESD, Martin provides technical and engineering advice and shares his
extensive experience in community energy and project financing. He is
passionate about empowering communities through renewable energy.

ESD aim to pay up to 5.5% return on investment from autumn 2027, then annually thereafter. Repayment on capital from autumn 2029.
Withdrawals can be applied after year end 2029. There is a three month notice period; however, in some instances, such as the death of a member, earlier withdrawals may be considered.
