  • Take action against the climate crisis by supporting the continued generation of clean solar energy, cutting carbon emissions.

  • Help Sheriffhales Community Energy to protect local wildlife and biodiversity in the land around their solar array.

  • Support vital local projects with a positive environmental and social impact through their Community Benefit Fund.

  • Earn a potential tax-free return. Investments in the bond offer target a return of 5% and are eligible to be held within an IFISA*

The bigger picture

In 2018, Sheriffhales Community Energy was formed as a Community Benefit Society to purchase an established solar array from a commercial renewable energy organisation and bring it into community ownership. The 3.2MW solar array:

  • Has been generating clean energy since 2016.
  • Benefits from a government-backed feed-in tariff subsidy, with a guaranteed minimum price for the electricity it supplies to the local distribution network.
  • Generates revenue of over £400,000 per annum.
  • Is expected to generate around £1,000,000 over its lifetime to fund local community initiatives, with £150,000 already allocated to local causes.
  • Produces around 2,984 MWh of clean energy each year - enough to power 825 homes.

  • *IFISA eligibility depends on investors' individual tax status and current legislation.

Where your money goes

It’s your money so it follows that you want to know where it goes and what kind of impact you’re making. Your investment will:

  • Enable this Community Benefit Society to repay short-term finance on the purchase of the array, completing the long-term financing of the community solar array,
  • Allow this established solar array to continue to generate revenue that’s for the benefit of the local community while encouraging biodiversity through wildflower meadows.
  • Empower local people to take control of their energy generation by creating 100% community-owned, clean renewable energy, and
  • Support the transition to a low-carbon future for the local community.
