New investment opportunity takes flight

The Aero Space Kinross IF ISA or SITR eligible bond offer gives investors the opportunity to support their vision for a new discovery centre that will inspire the future of flight and space exploration in the heart of Scotland.

“Space is for everybody. It's not just for a few people in science or math, or for a select group of astronauts. That's our new frontier out there, and it's everybody's business to know about space.”
Christa Mcauliffe (first civilian astronaut)

Space exploration and aviation are two fascinating areas that continue to be developed and explored by curious and brilliant minds, and their continued success relies on today’s young people being inspired to innovate and push the boundaries of what we think is possible.

That’s why, we are excited to welcome Aero Space Kinross to the Ethex platform, giving investors the opportunity to support their vision for a new discovery centre that will inspire the future of flight and space exploration in the heart of Scotland.

The recently-launched SITR or IF ISA eligible share offer will raise funds from investors to help Aero Space Kinross (ASK) to complete the construction of an exciting and immersive new visitor attraction and education hub in Kinross that’s designed to excite and inspire future generations of engineers, scientists, technicians, pilots and perhaps even astronauts through play-based STEM-related educational activities.

ASSET is a Community Benefit Society that was set up to help revive the rural Kinross-shire economy, which borders some of Scotland’s most deprived areas. ASK was formed as the trading arm of the charity. ASK's vision is to purchase, renovate, repurpose and refit a former MOD/NATO Satellite Communications Station at Balado Bridge Kinross into a world-class aerospace and flight discovery centre.
They have already secured £1.6 million of government funding to develop the attraction that will create around 25 full-time jobs, helping to sustain the wider local Kinross economy.

It is anticipated that the centre will attract 50,000 visitors each year and provide a STEM educational resource for around 10,000 visits from school visits, captivating and inspiring visitors of all ages. Visitors will be able to explore the wonders of flight and embark upon an epic journey to outer space by visiting the planetarium and getting up close to the many planned hands-on exhibits.
The centre will also be vital in preserving local aviation heritage to be shared with visitors, showcasing leading-edge developments in the Scottish aerospace sector.

Speaking of the bond offer, Chairman of ASSET, Alisdair Stewart, said: “This a significant step in our journey to making our overall strategy to create the Aero Space Kinross science and space centre in the area, a reality. We see the educational link as a vitally important one and encourage young people in the area to study with a STEM career in mind.

"We would like to invite people to support our vision for the creation of a visitor attraction themed on flight and space exploration. We have now been awarded £1.6m of government economic funding and the proceeds of this bond offer will supplement the government funding to facilitate the acquisition of a site for the creation of the venue.

"Crucially, creation of the venue will enable us to considerably expand our activities in the sphere of play-based informal STEM education to inspire young people to become scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians of the future."

Commenting on the project, Morven Lyon, Community Shares Scotland, Programme Manager added: “Aero Space Kinross is an exciting and ambitious prospect, unlike anything we have seen in Scotland previously. We’re delighted to support a project which will not only engage and inspire young people in STEAM-related educational activities but that will also create jobs and benefit the wider local economy. The community bond offer is a pilot project for the Community Shares Scotland team and we hope that it might inspire other communities across Scotland to consider financing their project this way.”

Investments in the 7-year bond offer will enable ASK to purchase the site and create the centre, making investors an important part of the success of the vision.

They are also eligible to be held within an Innovative Finance ISA for potential tax-free returns or are eligible for Social Investment Tax Relief at 30%. Investments start at £1,000 and target returns of 5%. If you’re interested in helping ASK realise their vision, find out more on their Ethex profile
