Tamar Energy Community (TEC) was established in July 2014 to help the communities of the Tamar Valley and surrounding area engage in and benefit from the low carbon transition, tackle fuel poverty and generate income for local community projects.
TEC is governed by a board of local volunteer Directors and managed by a small team of passionate local people.
Registered Society founded 2014
TEC provides support and services in four main areas: energy advice, local energy innovation, sharing knowledge, and community-owned renewables. Read more
TEC’s base case business plan for the Solar Roofs indicates they will generate sufficient income to cover all operating, administration and finance costs, including a target 5% interest payment to Members and around £10,000 p/a Community Fund contribution.
Interest accrues from Share Allocation
TEC’s ‘Solar Roofs’ installations between them generate over 250,000kWh of electricity per year, from the sun, generating clean energy and community funds for the Tamar area.
As a community benefit society, TEC operates primarily for the benefit of the Local Community rather than its Members. All surplus income from TEC’s Solar Roofs after operating costs, reserves and finance costs will be used to support TEC’s community purpose.
