Join us on Thursday 26th June from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM for a special online discussion between Ben Sharpe, Senior InvestmentManager at Ethex, and Jon Halle, Co-founder of the Big Solar Co-op, as they explore how ethical investment can drive a sustainable energy future.
Timed to coincide with the launch of Big Solar Co-op’s new bond offer on Ethex (on 23rd June), this event is a chance to hear first-hand about the organisation’s ambitious plans to scale up community-owned solar energy across the UK. You’ll learn about Big Solar Co-op’s mission to make solar energy more accessible, ethical and impactful—creating clean energy on rooftops and unused land, and ensuring the transition to net zero is both just and community-led.
Jon will share the story of how Big Solar Co-op has grown since 2022 to own and operate ten rooftop solar projects, producing over 1,000 MWh of clean energy every year—enough to power more than 20 million passenger miles in an electric train. With more than 40 new sites in the pipeline and a thriving membership of over 1,100 people, the organisation is ready for its most exciting chapter yet.
We’ll look at the Whiteborough solar park, the next major project to be funded by this new bond offer, and explore the bigger picture of how community investment is unlocking the vast potential of solar power across the UK.
This discussion will also highlight Big Solar Co-op’s commitment to sustainability and ethics—from pioneering the reuse of second-life solar panels, to ensuring all new panels are responsibly sourced, and carefully selecting sites to protect biodiversity and food security.
Whether you’re a potential investor or simply curious about the future of community-owned solar, this live online chat is not to be missed. You’ll also have the opportunity to put your questions to the speakers during a live Q&A.
