The Energise Africa platform lists investment opportunities in pioneering organisations bringing clean and affordable energy access to people in sub-Saharan Africa.
 
A solar or clean energy business on Energise Africa is able to use your investment, which can be put through an innovative finance ISA for tax efficient returns,  to purchase and distribute equipment solar home systems or mini-grids for example, to households and businesses in sub-Saharan Africa.
 
There are over 600m people in sub-Saharan Africa living off grid and through investors Energise Africa is taking clean energy to areas where it is needed most.
On completion, Energise Africa's bond offers seek to repay your investment with interest, of up to 8% targeted returns. This is funded by revenue from the energy systems or, for qualifying projects, results-based finance grants.

The solar business uses your investment to purchase solar home systems, which are sold to households and businesses in the target country of the project.

The families & businesses make monthly payments until they own the system outright, while the business maintains the system and is able to switch it off remotely if payments are not made. After 12 to 24 months, the family usually owns the system outright. The money they save in fuel costs can be used for other things.
