Understanding positive investing
Where in the UK do positive investors live? What do they invest in, and why? What can be done to build the positive investment marketplace?
Positive investing - also referred to as social or impact investing - means saving and investing in businesses because of what they do, not what they don’t do. It is what we might naturally imagine ethical investing to be – backing businesses that put delivering a social or environmental benefit at their heart, alongside a financial return.
Ethex is highly active in building understanding of the positive investment market and what needs to be done to help it grow.
The 'Understanding the Positive Investor' research that we are conducting during 2016 will be the biggest research project on individual positive investors ever undertaken, and we are currently inviting all positive investment providers to participate. The final report, which is expected to be publicly available later 2016, aims to provide a common basis for all positive linvestment providers to understand better how to focus their limited resources on growing the market.
Ethex's 2013 Positive Investing Report analysed close to 50,000 investments by postcode to give a map of the hotspots for positive invetsment in the UK. Subsequent reports in October from 2014 and 2105 give an overview of the growth of this £3.2 billion market and the kinds of people and businesses that make it up. Together these reports reveal where in the UK positive investors live; what they invest in, and why, and what can be done to build the positive investment marketplace.
