Registering & Investing in Sheffield Energy Works

Registration Steps

To invest in Sheffield Energy Works, you first need to register on the Ethex platform. Registration takes just a few minutes and involves three stages: an Investor Questionnaire, selecting your Investor Type, and providing your Personal Details for identity verification.

Step One: Create Your Account


Click here to start the registration process

Enter your name exactly as it appears on your ID, your email address and a secure password. Confirm that you are not a US or Canadian resident, accept the Terms & Conditions, complete the ReCaptcha and click Create My Account


Step Two: Confirm Your Email Address


Check your inbox for a confirmation email from Ethex. Click on the confirmation email to verify your address. If you don't see the email within a few minutes, check your spam folder or email orders@ethex.org.uk


Step Three: Complete the Investor Questionnaire


Once logged in, read the Ethex FAQs and Risk Warning pages carefully before starting. The quiz has 6 questions — a helpful explanatory note below each question guides your answer. You have 2 attempts; failing both triggers a 24-hour cooldown before you can retry.


Step Four: Select Your Investor Type


Choose Individual or Institution. Most investors select Restricted Investor (Everyday Investor). Click the category to read its full description, answer the eligibility questions, accept the declaration, and click Continue



Step Five: Enter Your Personal Details


Provide your Date of Birth, Nationality, and UK address (search by postcode or enter manually). Click Submit to complete your registration.


Step Six: KYC Identity Check


Ethex automatically runs a Know Your Customer (KYC) check — usually completed within a few minutes. You will receive a confirmation email. If further information is needed, Ethex will contact you by email. Once your KYC checks are complete you will be free to invest.

Understanding Your Payment Options

There are two different ways to move money on Ethex and it is important to understand the
distinction between them. Many investors confuse depositing money into their wallet with actually
making an investment — they are not the same thing.

1. Making an Investment


When you select an investment amount on the Sheffield Energy Works offer page and proceed to checkout, you will be presented with the Choose a Payment Method screen. This gives you three ways to pay:

  • Pay by bank transfer Request a unique bank reference number, then make a payment directly from your bank to ShareIn Ltd using the details provided. Please allow 3–5 days for funds to clear.
  • Pay by debit card Pay instantly using your debit card — the fastest way to complete your investment.
  • Pay from wallet Use funds already deposited in your Ethex wallet to pay for the investment.
